Barbecue Sauce

Well, since this is a blog about listing products that do NOT contain high-fructose corn syrup, I usually don’t post about products that do unless they stand out for some reason. In this case, a product I show-cased as proudly boasting, “No High-Fructose Corn Syrup” on its label has, sadly reverted to using HFCS. That product is Bull’s Eye Original Barbecue Sauce.

I noticed that the “No High-Fructose Corn Syrup” disappeared off the label at some point recently. Then I started getting comments giving me a heads-up that it now does contain high-fructose corn syrup. Sure enough, it now does. Big step backwards!

It’s thing’s like this that sent me on a quest to learn to make things completely from scratch as an alternative to relying on big corporations’ ideas of “quality” when it comes to feeding my family. So I have launched Sherry’s Test Kitchen – and the recipe that spurned that idea is finally complete and posted today – follow the link for my Homemade Barbecue Sauce Recipe. I hope you like it!

In the meantime, I have scratched Bull’s Eye Original Barbecue Sauce off the list of products that contain NO high-fructose corn syrup!

  1. My son is HFCS intolerant and LOVES Bulls-eye. I had just bought 10 more bottles when they were on sale for a dollar a piece! We are sooooo sad!

  2. I was very unhappy when they added in HFCS. Bulls-eye was the only sauce I would buy for this reason. I did send them an e-mail stating how I would not be able to buy this product anymore. Hopefully they get a lot of people doing this and they go back.

Meanwhile there is Stubb’s B-B-Q sauce that is natural and tastes good, but it is more expensive.

  3. Lane Mallette says:

Noticed this today and will no longer be buying this product. Kind of sneaky of them really to just quietly change back to the cheaper HFCS. Learning not to assume anymore and be ready for this kind of sneak attack.

  4. I loved this product the taste is great but mostly I bought it because it did not have HFCS. I realized a few weeks ago when I went to buy it again and didnt see on the front like it usually said no corn syrup and was SO disappointed when I read the ingredients. I sent them an email letting them no I will no longer be buying this product because of this. Maybe if enough people do this they will go back…..

  5. Darn! My son is allergic to wheat, corn and gluten. Everything must be made from scratch! Sauces and condiments that are easily added to most recipes must be created or deleted. I wish so badly all those corn pushers would wake up allergic to corn one morning! There is a growing market of people who can’t have both wheat and corn. Won’t it be nice when corn is recognized as a food allergen! I don’t mind the extra effort cooking. Just please give me some information on product labels.

  6. Yeah, really disappointed with this. Bulls-eye was a pretty good tasting sauce but now it’s time to look for a replacement.

  7. thanks for sharing!! i was SOOO disappointed when i went to buy some bulls-eye and found it had HFCS now…why they did that is beyond me!
    thanks for the recipe!
