High Fructose Corn Syrup Commercial – SPOOF!
Have you seen that commercial with the Moms talking about juice and high-fructose corn syrup? Here is the spoof video that was created in answer to that. Pretty funny! As if you can add so-called “positive elements” to make the negative ones just “go away.” They also forget to address the fact that it’s almost impossible to consume HFCS “in moderation” (unless you are very vigilant – which is what this site is about – vigilance, I mean, not consuming HFCS) – because it’s used as a preservative in things that don’t normally have sugar, like Worcestershire sauce and marinades and rubs.
Curt Ellis and Ian Cheney talk about “King Corn” in Online Chat
I try in this blog never to simply link to something else on the internet with no other content in the blog post - I’m here to provide information, not just link to it! But I came across a transcript of an Online Chat that happened on April 16, 2008, with Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis who are the makers of the documentary, “King Corn.”
It’s really excellent reading (these guys are not just super-knowledgable, but funny as well), and I highly recommend it. Follow this link to the chat transcript.
‘King Corn’ comes out on DVD April 29, 2008.
Trailer for the Movie, “King Corn”
Here is a trailer for the movie ‘King Corn,’ which I highly recommend. It’s an in-depth and entertaining documentary about the corn industry, high-fructose corn syrup and “King Corn” (presumably our beloved Earl Butz, but they never do say).
My favorite quote: “It’s enough to make you distrust everything on your plate.”
King Corn
Here is a review and a run-down of the movie “King Corn” which devotes a segment to high-fructose corn syrup. An entertaining documentary, it raises a lot of good questions. One of the biggest, to me, “Why no cameras in the high-fructose corn syrup manufacturing plant????”
Entertainment – TV Shows, Media, Hype, etc.
BOSTON LEGAL
One episode of Boston Legal had the character Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) bringing a lawsuit against a snack food company for contributing to the obesity of a client.
Her biggest argument was about all of the research and information there is out there about high fructose corn syrup and about how this one snack food company just loaded its food with it. Her claim was that her client’s satiety level was blocked so successfully that he had to keep eating and eating in order just to feel a little bit full. She claimed also that this snack food company had to be aware of the dangers of hfcs but went ahead and used it anyway.
It never showed the case actually going to court beyond going in front of the judge to see whether it was to be dismissed or not. But she won her case – got the judge to agree that it should be heard and that a lawsuit was reasonable.
I can see this happening in real life. Hopefully the over-saturization of items with hfcs will come to an end before it comes to that!
