Soda Pop with No High-Fructose Corn Syrup added to list

I’m adding Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback to the list of products with no high-fructose corn syrup, because it was suggested by a reader. I hadn’t, before, because they were out as “limited editions.” But now they seem to be back on a more permanent basis.

7Up Retro Added to List

I added 7UP Retro to the list today. It contains real sugar (as opposed to regular 7Up). Unfortunately, according to the 7Up Retro web page, it’s only available for a limited time. Why?? Maybe if it’s popular enough, they’ll revert to just using sugar again? Let’s hope so!

Cool Juice!

Cool Juice is the newest addition to the No High-Fructose Corn Syrup list. It comes in cool flavors like ‘Tropical Blue’, ‘Mango Groove’, ‘Tropical Rhythms’, and ‘Fruit Punch’. Even the Cool Juice website is pretty cool!

It looks like it’s only available in stores from the Midwest and down (South) right now, but hopefully they’ll expand distribution northward soon!

Root Beer with No High-Fructose Corn Syrup (and other additions)

Today we have several really good additions to the list that readers sent in.

The first item for today’s additions to the no high-fructose corn syrup list is Simple Harvest granola bars by Quaker. Apparently they aren’t available everywhere, but our reader has had luck finding them at QFC. He also says that bread from the Seattle Baking Company has no HFCS.

Black Swan wrote in and said that they just introduced 2 new BBQ sauces with no corn syrup. There are two varieties: Clean Gourmet Savory Original and Sweet Cognac sauces.

Another reader tells us that Abita, the same company that makes the beer, also makes a no-hfcs root beer. It’s made with Louisiana cane sugar. It’s not distributed everywhere, but you can check for locations at Abita’s Web Site.

That’s it for today! Have a wonderful day with no high-fructose corn syrup in it!

Halloween Candy with No-High Fructose Corn Syrup

Someone commented recently about all the candy she found with no high-fructose corn syrup in it (thank you!) I haven’t had time to verify all of them but the one I did look at was Hershey’s Kisses – no hfcs of any kind! I say that that way because sometime HFCS is labelled as “modified food starch,” so it can be difficult to tell.

I’m not surprised there is no HFCS in Hershey’s Kisses, as they are not chewy or gummy in texture. In fact, adding hfcs would probably ruin the texture in the case of that product because of its properties. And not all Hershey products are free of HFCS, as Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup lists “highp-fructose corn syrup” as its first ingredient!

So be sure to check each different type of candy/Halloween candy you want to buy if you are looking to avoid HFCS. Just because one item within a brand is free of it, it doesn’t mean they all are!

In the meantime, yay for Hershey’s Kisses being made from mostly just chocolate and sugar!

Additions to No High-Fructose Corn Syrup List

Today I am happy to add Hunt’s Ketchup and Oroweat breads. All of the Oroweat packages I have seen now say “no high fructose corn syrup” on them, but I could find nothing on their site that says that none of their products contain it. So I would still look for verification when choosing a particular product. It’s good to have a lot more choices, though, when choosing bread without hfcs!

Freestone Peaches and Bubble Up

Freestone Peaches and Bubble Up

Two awesome, nostalgic finds for today’s update to the Foods With No High-Fructose Corn Syrup list!

First is Lady Elberta Freestone Peaches! They are packed in “heavy syrup,” but it’s not hfcs. I remember from my youth my father going nuts over “freestone peaches.” I haven’t had any forever, but I’m going to use this can to make homemade Peach Cobbler. The recipe I have is from my Mom’s collection and my grandma says this was my great-grandma’s recipe. So there is all kinds of nostalgia in today’s finds already.

Next is the soda-pop “Bubble Up.” I didn’t even know they still made that any more. It’s a lemon-lime carbonated drink, and it says right on the bottle (yes, bottle) “Made with real sugar.” I don’t know where you can find this in regular stores. I got this bottle at a tiny, old-fashioned movie theatre in the heart of Seattle, where they sold popcorn in old fashioned bags and all the pop and candy was “vintage.” Well, the brands and styles were vintage. I hope they haven’t truly been holding them since they first came out!

Both finds are pictured here. Enjoy!
