I’m adding Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback to the list of products with no high-fructose corn syrup, because it was suggested by a reader. I hadn’t, before, because they were out as “limited editions.” But now they seem to be back on a more permanent basis.

This AP article reports that FDA labeling director Barbara Schneeman has expressed (in writing) concern over two of the corn industry’s websites using “corn sugar” and “high fructose corn syrup” interchangably. Here in Canada there was a product called Vintage Soda (originally Beaver Soda) that was simply the best for flavor and all natural ingredients. There was even a “no HFCS” stamp on the label. The sad part is the big guys muscled them out of shelf space so they stopped making it.
My family has been avoiding HFCS for years now and it amazes me how many products continue to add HFCS to their ingredients. Nice to see a place where I can find products I’d like to support.
